Unit 1 My New Teacher
The first period:
Aims of the lesson:
1. Enable the students to master the question: Who’s your teacher? What’s he like? And give the correct answers.
2. Get the students to master the four-skill words in this lesson.
3. Enable the students to be familiar with the song: My New Teacher.
Main and difficult points:
1. The four-skill words: young, old, tall, short, strong, thin etc.
2. The new sentence patterns:
Who’s your art teacher? …is my art teacher./My art teacher is…
3. What’s he /she like? He/She’s…
Teaching aids:
1. Pictures.
2. The recorder together with its tape.
Teaching procedure:
Step 1 Warm-up
1. Sing a song: My New Teacher. Help the students to be familiar with it.
2. Free talk:
What grade are you in? Do you have new books?
Step 2 Presentation
1. T: Do you have new teachers?
Ss: We have a new computer teacher?
T: Who’s your computer teacher?
Ss: Mr Li is our computer teacher.
T: What’s he like? Is he young? Is he…?
2. Help the students to give some information about their new teachers and then present the words:
young, old, tall, short, strong, thin, funny and kind
3. Read the words and remember them.
Activity :
Write the words on the blackboard, get the students to read the words quickly. Divide the whole class into four groups and have a competition.
Step 3 Practice
1. Practise the sentence patterns one by one:
S1: Do you have a …teacher?
S2: Yes, we have a … teacher.
S3: Who’s your …teacher?
S4: … is our …teacher.
S5: What’s he like?
S6: He/She’s…
2. Practise the sentence patterns in groups.
3. Get the students to describe Sarah’s teacher.
4. Find out.
Get the students to read the description and try to find out the answer.
Step 4 Consolidation and extension
Describe their parents, friends or classmates.
