Abstract Commodity instruction is the bridge to link the producer with the customers. No matter it is a medicine, a tool, a kind of machine or anything else, a commodity must have its introductions about its usage, quality, nature and maintenance. With the ever increasing international exchanges and globalization of international economy, many commodities are aimed at customers from different countries. So both Chinese-English and English-Chinese translation of commodity become very important. During the recent years, Chinas foreign trade develops faster and faster. Therefore, there are more and more studies on translation of commodity instruction. Most of the studies place emphasis on the sentence grammar. Scholars have summarized some sentence patterns to make the translation easier, but seldom studied the translation of commodity from the perspective of cultural diversity. Like when a commodity is sold in the international market, whether cultural diversity will affect the translation quality and so on. The present research focuses on Chinese-English translation of commodity instruction from the perspectives of cultural diversity and sentence patterns. This paper includes five parts: Part one is the introduction and the background of the research. Part two is the overview of commodity instruction, with the explanation of its definition, structure and usage. Part three is the analysis of translation from the perspective of cultural diversity and the summary of translation principles for commodity instruction. Part four is the analysis of lexicon, syntax and discourse in translation and the introduction of some translation strategies for commodity instruction. Part five is the conclusion.
