A meta-analysis by Staessen et al shows that differences in SBP account for the CV-event rate reductions observed in the major BP trials. Many of the trials in this meta-analysis were also in the BPLTTC study. These trials included large numbers of women. Staessen et al predicted odds ratios from meta-regression models involving 30 BP trials and 149,407 patients. Odds ratios were calculated for experimental versus reference treatment.
