By analyzing other people’s hostile attitudes towards Pecolas’ dark complexion, this paper shows that the tragedy of the little black girl originates from the dissimilation of aestheticism of the black and the vituperation of the around people. Through this book, Morrison attacks fiercely on the prevailing saying “the black is ugly” of the time and overthrows the deep-rooted myth of “the white is beautiful”. Introduction The Bluest Eye is Toni Morrison’s first novel establishing her literary reputation as a renowned black woman writer. The novel is a vivid description of the tragedy life of a little black girl Pecola living in a white dominated world, who has an obsession of having a pair of bluest eyes which ultimately drives her into the madness. Toni Morrison was born Chole Anthony Wofford in 1931 in Lorain,Ohio. Morrison grew up with a love of literature and received her undergraduate degree from Haward University. She then moved to New York and become an editor at Randon House, specializing in black fiction. In 1933, Morrison became the first African-American woman to receive the Nobel Prize in literature.
