It gives guidance on how to safely risk assess patients as suitable to be “outlied”, and provides a risk assessment and checklist for the opening of buffer capacity. This is a generic policy which applies to adult patients in all PHT sites. It is recognised that clinical specialties may also wish to develop local guidelines for outlying with the Trust’s operational team. It is applied in conjunction with the Bed Capacity Management Policy and the Trust Escalation Plan.
