Senate Regulations for Postgraduate Taught Programmes of Study – Modular Programmes 1. GENERAL These regulations are to be read in conjunction with Senate Assessment Regulations for Taught Programmes of Study. 2. DEFINITIONS The following definitions shall apply in respect of these Regulations: Assessment: Forms of Assessment fall into one of two types: Formative Assessment(s): For the purpose of these Regulations, Formative Assessment is defined as Assessment that does not contribute to the final award of Credit. Summative Assessment(s): For the purpose of these Regulations, Summative Assessment is defined as that which measures whether a student has achieved the learning outcomes for a defined unit of learning, and at what standard of performance. Summative Assessment contributes to the award of Credit. Methods of Assessment (Class Test, Coursework Assessment, Examination, Practical-Based Examination) are defined in Senate Assessment Regulations for Taught Programmes of Study. Assessment Criteria: A description of what the learner is expected to achieve in order to demonstrate that the Module Learning Outcomes have been met. Calendar Year: A period of twelve consecutive months. Core Module: A Module which, in accordance with the Programme Regulations for a particular Programme of Study, is compulsory for students registered on that programme or on a route within that programme. Boards of Studies may recommend that a Module shall be a Core Module for one or more Programmes of Study and/or routes and an Option Module for one or more programmes and/or routes. Co-requisite(s): Modules which, in accordance with the Programme Regulations, must be studied concurrently by students registered on that programme or on a route within that programme. CQFW: Credit and Qualifications Framework for Wales: a framework and source of specification and guidance covering all accredited post-16 education in Wales.
