Part 3 Warming up and Pre-reading Health has long been a top issue of people’s daily conversation. With the popularity of the computer and Internet as well as TV or other media， more and more adolescents have been involved in health issues, like cigarette smoking, alcohol drinking, drug taking, addiction to computer games, and unhealthy sexual activities. In addition, with the pressure coming from their job, study or even the relationship with their families, peers or friends, they are also faced with great stress, which will also do serious harm to their mental and physical health. What’s worse, to release the stress, or rather distress, they may turn to cigarettes, alcohol or even computer games for comfort. Smoking is said to be one of the most serious among them. But, of course, the reason why adolescents take up smoking varies due to different cases. Many of them are said to have attempted it just out of curiosity or by just following the examples in the media. Some may have followed the sample of their parents or people around. Others will get into the habit of smoking simply because they consider it impolite or difficult to refuse an offer of cigarettes in certain social activities. The worst thing is that once they start, they will tend to get addicted to it and find it really difficult to quit.
