Cactus Hotel Essential Questions How are all things, great and small connected? What is a system and how does it work? How is a cactus like a desert hotel? Student Learning Goals Mastery Learning Goals As a result of this unit of study, I will: know the importance of balance in nature; know the role of the saguaro cactus to animals of the desert; know how the structures of plants help them adapt to survive; know that animals adapt and use plants in their environment to meet basic needs; know the life cycle of the saguaro cactus; improve note-making skills; and know animals of the desert that depend on the saguaro cactus. Understanding Learning Goals As a result of this unit of study, I will: understand that all things within a system are connected and related to the survival of others; and understand the importance of balance, consistency and change in a system. Interpersonal Learning Goals As a result of this unit of study, I will: notice and observe change; appreciate the balance of nature; ask questions in order to understand change and the affects of change; and be responsible for shared work and completion of tasks. Self Expressive Learning Goals As a result of this unit of study, I will: communicate my ideas and thoughts through original products; make associations and connect to new ideas; and transfer learning to solve problems in new ways.
