The day was decided by the United Nations in 1992. Its goal is to get citizens and governments thinking about one of our most precious resources. The theme of the year 2004 is “Water and Disasters”. Water is necessary for all life on Earth, but is also dangerous. Other water-related disasters, such as hurricanes and droughts, cause loss of lives and huge economic damage each year.
