1. Introduction As the human civilization entered into the twenty first century, the communication between countries becomes more and more frequent, especially China’s entry into World Trade Organization, the success application of the Olympic Games has made translation entered a new historical stage. The importance of translation is never as important as today, as a result of this; it is essential to improve the theory proficiency and practical ability of the translators. This thesis concerns about one of the translation techniques---conversion of parts of speech. To make an attempt to describe and analyze the conversion of parts of speech, conversions between parts of speech, including the conversion of nouns, the conversion of verbs, the conversion of prepositions, the conversion of adjectives, the conversion of adverbs and the conversion of conjunctions are stated. Besides the conversions of parts of speech are discussed, the possible reasons of conversion are studied and examined, as the author’s analysis, there are mainly two reason exist, the first reason is that there are differences in classification of parts of speech between the Chinese language and English language; the second reason is that there are large differences in word-formation between the two languages. In order to make the descriptions and analysis of the conversions of parts of speech in English-Chinese translation more clear and easy to access, a number of cases and examples are provided. Some of the cases are acquired from the masterpieces of literature works, some of them are from the books of translation theory and practices, some of them are from Internet and database which shows very good retrievability, all of them are classic and excellent. Conversion as a not new topic is not one about which everything has already been done.
