The book emphasizes that you keep from drawing the VSM electronically to make the activity more free form. Note the demand amplification and Quality Screen information. This is important to discuss in the class. Suggest performing this analysis as they create there VSMs. The problem with the different levels of value stream mapping is that it is difficult to orchestrate them in a manner where the entire value stream can be synchronized in the VSM process. This approach offers the synchronization. They are sequenced below. If you have a new product/process, consider performing the last step….with the idea of minimizing non-value added steps. Talk through this slide as the animation progresses. The first animated sequence is the customer demand and how the information enters the business. Order entry is handled by a Contracts Administrator. They deal with customers directly. Once an order is received, the CA manually enters the data into the MRP system. Second sequence, ….who uses the information and what is done with it. The MRP system regens weekly which manipulates the orders and provides work order and purchase releases to the production planner. Upon receipt of the work order, the production planner retrieves the appropriate setup card and send it to the tool crib. Here the tool crib attendant retrieves the appropriate gages from a centralized gage crib. A trucker is also signaled to retrieve the die tool which are stored at a centralized location. Third sequence, the raw material is shipped to Alpha Foundry by truck. It is received within 2 days. A receipt transaction takes place by the receiving dock then stages the inventory at a defined location. After a request from the die cast operator, a trucker moves a skid of raw material to the appropriate die cast machine. Fourth seq
