Clara enters Paul’s life when he is becoming aware of his need for a physical relationship with a woman. Paul and Mrs. Morel Oedipus complex The feelings toward his father and mother form a sharp contrast, just coinciding with Freud’s Oedipus complex theory of killing the father and loving the mother. Paul loves his mother so much that he wants to be with her and spend all of his time with her. To live with his mother by himself is his greatest desire.
