大學生品格教養 從新生關懷開始 彭森明 國立台灣師範大學 教育評鑑與發展研究中心 社會對大學生品格教養的期待 近年來社會關心大學生素質低落。素質包括專業知識、專業技能、基本核心能力與品格。 最近媒體報導大學生學習不認真、作弊風氣很甚。 另外業界顧主亦抱怨大學畢業生欠缺人際關係與溝通能力、思考及判斷能力以及良好工作態度。 因此期待大學能加強品格教育,認為優良的待人處世態度、高尚品格,和開闊的眼界與胸懷,是個人最重要的競爭力。 品格教養不單是國內問題 以美國為例 布希總統曾召開全國會議討論如何提升品格教育 哈佛大學與其他名校都紛紛重新開辦品格教育 許多民間機構亦積極投入此項工作(e.g., Josephson Institute of Ethics ) The Aspen Declaration on Character Education In July 1992, the Josephson Institute of Ethics hosted a summit conference in Aspen, Colorado. A diverse group of ethicists, educators and youth-service professionals convened to find ways to work together and boost their character-education efforts. The declaration that concluded this meeting formed the intellectual foundation for the CHARACTER COUNTS! movement, started by the Institute the following year. The Aspen Declaration on Character Education The next generation will be the stewards of our communities, nation and planet in extraordinarily critical times. In such times, the well-being of our society requires an involved, caring citizenry with good moral character. People do not automatically develop good moral character; therefore, conscientious efforts must be made to help young people develop the values and abilities necessary for moral decision making and conduct. Effective character education is based on core ethical values rooted in democratic society, in particular, respect, responsibility, trustworthiness, justice and fairness, caring, and civic virtue and citizenship. These core ethical values transcend cultural, religious and socioeconomic differences. Character education is, first and foremost, an obligation of families and faith communities, but schools and youth-service organizations also have a responsibility to help develop the character of young people. These responsibilities are best achieved when these groups work in concert.
