What is the meaningful antecedent of a definite pronoun? I. Some basic pronoun rules A pronoun is a word that takes the place of a noun. Pronouns can be in one of three cases: Subject, Object, or Possessive. Pronouns can be definite or indefinite and the main difference is that definite pronouns have antecedents while indefinite pronouns have no antecedents. 1) Singular indefinite Pronouns: Anybody, either, one, each, neither, another, someone, each one, anything, nobody, somebody, no one, something, everybody, nothing, everyone, whatever, everything, whichever, whoever. 2) Plural indefinite pronouns: Both, few, others, several. 3) Indefinite pronouns that can be both plural and singular: All, many, some, any, most. Rule 1.  Nominative(Subjective) case: I/You/She/ …  Objective case: Me/You/Her/ … When the pronoun is the subject of the sentence, you need to use subject pronouns. Example: ______ had a great idea. I, you, he, she, it, we, and they are subject pronouns that can go into the blank. Correct: The prize was awarded to Jack and me.
