ABSTRACT Family education, school education and social education are the three main parts of modern educational system. Being the enlightenment and foundation, family education is an important part of lifelong education. Nowadays, international competition is increasingly fierce. But in the final analysis, it is the talent competition. Therefore, almost all countries have paid great attention to family education in terms of talents training. As a hot topic in our country, this issue has attracted attention of the whole state and society from all walks of life. However, up to now, there are still many unscientific family education concepts in China which have given a negative effect on the formation of good qualities in the new generation. Chinese family education concepts and western family education concepts are produced by different cultural tradition and heritage. So they lead to different methods on education. Therefore, the study of the concepts of Chinese and western family education really makes sense in identifying the differences and giving play to advantage so as to make up the shortcomings in Chinese family education. This thesis is devoted to a comparison of the concept of family education between China and the west. It discusses the identical aspects of the two concepts and expounds on the differences between the two concepts and analyses reasons for the differences. Through this comparative study, this thesis hopes to help people understand the differences between Chinese and Western family education concepts and update their educational concepts so as to improve the overall level of Chinese family education.
