毕业论文 ABSTRACT With the ever-accelerating pace of globalization, more and more foreign films are being introduced into China. The film is an art form with a collection of artistic and commercial value, and it is now one of the most charming and influential media. The film title is the first thing through which the audience can know about the film, so the translation of film titles is pretty significant. Owing to the great differences and diversity in culture, Chinese and western film titles have their own features, which should be taken into consideration in translation. Translation is not a simple process to change one language to another. In order to make film titles realize their values, translators should follow four principles: the informative value principle, the cultural value principle, the aesthetic value principle and the commercial value principle. Besides, translators have to master excellent translation skills so as to translate film titles properly and perfectly. This thesis expounds on the principles and approaches of the film title translation, pointing out that the translation of the film titles is a special process of re-creation and that transliteration, literal translation and free translation ought to supplement and complement each other.
