Persistent in Temperate climates (years) compared to Tropical climates (months). DDT is insoluble in water but accumulates in soil which acts as a sink. DDT accumulates in the body fat of animals. High trophic level feeders contain higher concentrations. DDT Facts Continued LD50 levels are 150-400 mg/kg of body weight, relatively low. Long term exposure leads to liver damage, tremors and hyperactivity. DDT levels of 200mg/kg in rats show no sign of poisoning, multiply by 70 to relate to human values. DDT has no teratogentic properties but can develop tumors in rats at concentrations near 500mg/kg.
