Playing for Keeps: Michael Jordan and the World That He Made Growing Up Michael grew up in Brooklyn, New York. His parents worked in banking, and his father had to transfer jobs to a town in North Carolina called Wilmington. Michael was 7 years old when he moved from New York, to North Carolina. He intended a school called Laney, just outside of Wilmington were he lived. He played a lot of sports growing up including baseball, football, and basketball. He made Varsity in all sports besides basketball, he was jealous that his best friend Harvest Smith was the only sophomore to make the team. High School Career He had attended Laney High school in Wilmington, North Carolina. Michael didn’t only play basketball he also played baseball and football. Michael did not make his varsity basketball team until his junior year, because of his height 5’11. When his junior and senior year came around, Michael was elected to be on the McDonalds All-American team. His senior year he averaged 29.2 points, 10.1 assists, and 11.6 rebounds. Jordan’s senior year came to an end, ever since he was a kid he wanted to go to UNC, so that’s were he was going to play at. College Career He had attended North Carolina from 1981 to 1984. He was named ACC freshman of the year, after he averaged 13.4 points a game. In 1982 Michael made the game winning buzzer beating shot against Georgetown, in the NCAA national championship, his sophomore year. Jordan said that shot was what got NBA teams looking at him so early. Michael did not finish his college career at North Carolina he left in 1984, because he got drafted third overall pick for the Chicago Bulls. He later on returned to finish his degree in 1996 still playing for the Chicago, Bulls. NBA Career Jordan’s Rookie year he averaged 28 points per game on 51.5% shooting. He quickly began to be getting a lot of fans even from the opposing crowds. Michael was on front of the sports illustrated witch was a big step for him, it was labeled “ A Star
