INITIATORS IN CHINA THAT ARE RECOMMENDED FOR GEL COAT IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGES BELOW * 10°C 15°C 20°C 25°C 30°C 35°C In all MEKP formulations there are three reactive components. 1) The first is Hydrogen peroxide which reacts with the promoters first and then is spent. It only affects the gel time and has no part in the actual cure of the resin and gel coat. In essence its function is to start the reaction. The colder the weather then the higher Hydrogen peroxide containing MEKP’s will work better to compensate for the temperature. In warmer temperatures the presence of high levels of hydrogen peroxide becomes a detriment as the gel coat becomes too short and the viscosity rise of the resin and gel coat is very short making it difficult to remove air and consolidate the laminate correctly. Hydrogen peroxide also breaks down to form water and oxygen which proposes a separate number of problems. 2) The second active ingredient is the monomer of MEKP which completes the gel and starts the actual cure. 3) The third active ingredient is the dimer of MEKP which completes the cure and due to the chemical structure of Vinyl Esters where the cross linking takes place at the end of the chain, it is important to use a high dimer containing MEKP to ensure the VE is cured well. Norox 925H is a high Dimer, low hydrogen peroxide formulated for use in vinyl esters. The hydrogen peroxide content is 1/6 that of Norox 9 and 1/10 that of Butanox M-50 or our Norox 900. In the case of the dimer content, Norox 925H is 3 times the level of dimer that Butanox M-50 is and 2 ? times the dimer that is in Norox 9. Norox 925H can be used in gel coat where temperatures may be high *
