Junior team members can provide a unique skill set that should be utilized. Conclusions The role of medical students as resident educators is a novel concept and should be encouraged on the general surgery service. Recommendations THANK YOU! Slide 1: Hi everyone, my name is Keith Wirth and I am a third year medical student at SUNY Downstate. The presentation I’d like to share today is entitled “Medical Students as General Surgery Resident Teachers.” Slide 2: The traditional chain of command in residency, one which the surgical community especially holds true to, also reflects the general teaching model in medical education. However, as training level advances, the lines between teacher and student become less fixed. Younger attendings may share recent literature updates with their seniors. Junior residents may share ABSITE preparation pearls amongst their colleagues. This idea of “near peer” teaching is not a new phenomenon, however the idea of a less experienced students teaching
