* Patients Are Worried About the Risk of Hypoglycemia: The Diabcare–Asia 2003 Study In the Diabcare-Asia 2003 study, 15,549 patients with diabetes were surveyed to determine the extent to which they worry about the risk of hypoglycemia.1 96% of patients had type 2 diabetes and 4% had type 1 diabetes.1 The results showed that 54% of respondents were worried about the risk of hypoglycemia all or most of the time.1 Purpose To show the extent to which patients with diabetes are concerned with the risk of hypoglycemia. Takeaway Most patients with diabetes are worried about the risk of hypoglycemia all or most of the time. Reference 1. Mohamed M; on Behalf of Diabcare-Asia 2003 Study Group. An audit on diabetes management in Asian patients treated by specialists: the Diabcare-Asia 1998 and 2003 studies. Curr Med Res Opin. 2008;24(2):507–514. * Decrease in Treatment Adherence Is Associated With the Presence of Hypoglycemic Symptoms The Real-Life Effectiveness and Care Patterns of Diabetes Management Study was designed to evaluate the prevalence of hypoglycemia among patients with type 2 diabetes whose metformin monotherapy failed and for whom its association with treatment did not provide satisfaction and adherence. A total of 1,709 patients with type 2 diabetes were given questionnaires and asked to self-report on whether they had hypoglycemic symptoms, the severity of those symptoms, treatment satisfaction, and treatment adherence.1 Overall, 652 (38.4%) patients reported having hypoglycemic symptoms, compared with 1045 (61.6%) patients who reported not having hypoglycemic symptoms. In patients with hypoglycemia, significantly fewer never had problems getting their prescriptions filled (P=0.0075), significantly fewer were never bothered by side effects (P=0.0001), fewer were never unable to follow treatment plans (P=0.0043), and fewer were never unsure about instructions (P=0.0057).1 These results show that there was a significant decrease in self-reported
