Learn the expressions of notices and poster of different occasions. Learn to write public notices. Learn to design posters. Approaching the Topic Exercises 1-3 (pp. 59-62) Conclusion: Both posters and notices consist of three parts: title, body and closing. They usually answer 4-wh questions, i.e. what, who, when and where. Notices and posters mainly vary in language and layout. Posters are often written in some fragmental words and phrases, while notices are mostly in sentences in the third person and in passive voice. Ready to Write 1. Learning Focus Either a notice or a poster is to publicize or advertise something such as movies, sports games, shows, lectures, or meetings and etc. Three parts are included in a notice/poster: the title “Notice/Poster” (or other is put in the top center); the text/body; and the name of the organization/person, the date to publish the notice/poster. The language in a poster should be brief and simple to read. They are mainly fragmental expressions. The size, color of the letters may be designed artistically to attract attention. The items in a poster should be listed in separate lines. A notice is written in sentences, mainly in third person and in passive voice. 2. Useful Expressions 1) Expressions for time 1) A meeting will be held on Friday. 2) There will be a meeting tomorrow afternoon. 3) A meeting is to be held on Sep. 9th. 4) A lecture/talk on … will be given …. 5)
