Founded in 1703,costing 89 years. One of Chinese four gardens. (Others:Suzhou Humble Administrators Garden, the Summer Palace in Beijing, Suzhou Lingering Garden. ) The first stage: (1703 to1713) Kangxi opened up the lake, built embankment, along with building palaces, pavilions and walls, mountain resort has begun to take shape. Then, Emperor Kangxi selected the most beautiful scenes in the garden and named them Thirty-six King. The second stage: (1741 to 1754) Emperor Qianlong made a large-scale expansion to Chengde Mountain Resort , adding palaces and more sophisticated large landscape architectures. In imitation of his grandfather Kangxi, Qianlong named another Thirty-six King .They are known as the Mount Resort Seventy-two King. From1713 to 1780, with the construction of the mountain resort, the arounding temples had been built up. In 1681, the Qing government built Mulan paddock. Every autumn, the emperor led thousands of people to visit the Mulan paddock for hunting. In order to make the emperor convenient to eat and live along the way ,they have built the 2l famous palaces, one of which is mountain resort. The mountain resort and the surrounding temples were built, lasting 89 years, through Kangxi, Yongzheng and Qianlong, three generations of emperors. In 1961, the mountain resort and some of the surrounding temples were listed as the first batch of national key cultural relics protection units . From 1976 to 2006, the State Council has approved of three plans in order to protect the mountain resort .They defined the protection principle, which stren
