ABSTRACTThefirstshortmessage(SM)intheworldwassuccessfullysentinDecember1992intheUK.SevenyearlaterSMstartedtospreadallaroundtheworldandleadanewroundoftechnologyrevolution.AfterChinaMobileandChinaUnicomstartedtheSMservicein2000,SMbegantospreadoverChinaandbecomepopularamongthepublicinalighteningspeed.Ithasmadeupforthedeficiencyofthetraditionalmediawithitscharacteristicsofspreadingconvenientlyatfastspeedandlowcostandbecomeaveryimportantchannelandcarrierofeverydayinformationandcommunication.PeopleareallfondofsendingandreceivingSMindailylife,especiallyonfestivals.TomaketheChineseFestivalBlessingSMpopularandsendtomorepeople,writersadoptdifferentstrategies.Intertextualityisaneffectivetechniquemostofthemprefer.Theterm“intertextuality”wasfirstputforwardbytheFrenchsemioticianJuliaKristevain1966.Sheargueseachtextcanbeseenasintertext,whichreferstoatextbetweenothertexts.Eachtextcan’texistalone.Boththeexistenceandunderstandingofasignaltesthavesomeconnectionwithothertexts.Intertextualityiskindofrelationshipthattextsareinterpenetratedandinterwovenwitheachother.Everytextisanabsorptionandtransformationofothertexts.Sincethen,intertextualityhasbecomeahottopicintheliteraryworkandnon-literaryworksaswell.Asaspecifictext,SMhasaverytypicalfeatureofintertextualityandhasaverywideresearchspace,whichisworthafurtherexploration.However,mostofthepreviousresearchesfocusonthefunctionandclassificationsofintertextualityinSM.Onlyafewresearcheshavebeendoneonthegeneratingmechanismofintertextuality.ThepresentstudyintendstopresentarelativelydetailedandsystematicanalysisofintertextualityinChinesefestivalblessingSMfromtheperspectiveofmemetics.MemeticsisanewtheorybasedonDarwin’sTheoryofEvolution,whichhasagreatexplanatorypowerofculture.Thecoretermofmemeticsismeme.In1976,RichardDawkins,aBritishevolutionarybiologist,firstproposedtheterm“meme”aftertheword“gene”inhisbookTheselfishgenetoexplainthespreadofideaandculturalphenomena.Hethinksmemeisaunitofculturaltransmissionoraunitofimitation.Amemecanbeanidea,atune,abuzz
