They claim that it is much more expensive than travelling by ordinary trains and is less fast than travelling by plane. Therefore, they assert that it is a waste of resources to construct high-speed rails. Personally, I believe that the advantages of the high-speed train definitely outweigh its disadvantages and we should invest more into its development. In the first place, it consumes much less time to travel by high-speed trains than by other means of transportation. It is known that a high-speed train can run at as high a speed as 250 to 300 kilometers per hour, which is much faster than that of an auto or ordinary train. Though it is not as fast as the plane, it is still time-saving if we take into account the time we spend on the way to the airport and waiting for boarding. This is especially true when it comes to short-distance or medium-distance trip. In the second place, the high-speed train has its obvious advantage in terms of cargo transportation. The development of Chinese economy puts tremendous demands on the rapid flow of raw materials and commodities.
