Engine Speed Sensor The engine speed sensor is located in the back of the front gear housing. It detects 24 raised pads on the back of the camshaft gear and sends signals to the ECM. The ECM processes these signals to determine engine speed. The sensor has a dual signal output providing two separate signals to the ECM.
