Better City, Better Life ——Study of modern urban sculpture ABSTRACT Being a carrier of human civilization, a city not only provides a focus foe society and economy but also for culture and art . If a city is a chronicle written in stones, then urban sculpture is the stone illustration in it. Much as good illustrations in a book can vividly present the characters and plot ,excellent urban sculptures can reflect a city’s history and features and create a ambiance. Over a long period of time, people have just paid attention to one aspect of it as a skill, but neglected the other aspect of it as a kind of culture. A farsighted city leaders are always keenly aware that urban sculpture plays an important role in closely connecting city and culture, construction and art , and make full use of them to record the city’s history, build up the city’s image, reflect the city’s achievement in civilization as well demonstrate the city’s ideals. Papers to the city and art as two main lines, nearly contemporary sculpture since the domestic and international city planning and construction of urban theory to explore for clues in order to build the city a better life as the goal, to bring art into the city as the main direction of research, summarizes the domestic reference development of the basis for the demonstration outside, what recourse we work toward this goal and to achieve this goal and later led to some other problem, and how to change the status quo of the problem, how to develop in the direction towards better urban sculpture construction, well into the space of art, into peoples lives.
