And with the further spread of globalization, it presents new characteristics and becomes a major issue that needs further researching and discussing in Chinese ideological field. Chinas young people especially the college students have access to the forefront of social thought, ideology and culture. So their ways of thinking and life are most likely to be influenced and then changed. Development and concrete manifestation of the contemporary Chinese nationalism, and realizing the role of the nationalism in the ideological and political education work among college students have important practical significance on building rational and harmonious Chinese nationalism, and on achieving the great rejuvenation of the Chinese nation. This paper studies and analyzes from such perspectives as the present situation of college students’ understanding of contemporary nationalism and their opinions. The paper focus on studying the background, development periods, analyzes the challenges to ideological and political education and puts forward countermeasures on ideological and political education. The paper aims to promote colleges to place great emphasis on the ideological and political education work and to discovers the significance of nationalism in the ideological and political education, to expand teaching activities to promote the disposition of teaching staff. In these ways, to guide college students to know correct nationalism effectively and to set up correct ideal faith and strong spiritual power, which contributes a lot to realize the great rejuvenation of Chinese nation.
