Experimental study on the anaerobic fermentation hydrogen production was carried out by using a vertical CSTR and a horizontal CSTR with a red basin as a substrate. The efficiency of the hydrogen production of VCSTR and HCSTR was compared, gradually increasing the organic load rate by increasing the COD concentration of influent (the inoculums was 8.17 gVSS/L, the temper- ature was 35˚C± 1˚C, HRT = 6 h). The results show that the hydrogen production rates of the two reactors gradually increase with increasing OLR. The most suitable OLR for the two types of CSTR are 24 kg COD/(m3∙d), which the pH of VCSTR and HCSTR are maintained at about 4.2 and 4.3, re- spectively. Gas productions are 86.1 L/d and 132.8 L/d an
