《推销员之死》中现代主义特征分析 Analysis on the Features of Modernism in Death of a Salesman Abstract Death of a Salesman depicts many fierce conflicts among the family members, and reviews the values of US citizens and other problems that are greater. With the rapid development of the western science and technology, the western civilization has been refreshed and the views of universe and people have been changed. And then the Modernism arose. From the view of Modernism, dig into the features of Modernism in this drama by these aspects—American Dream, which is the theme and main modernist expression techniques, language and different modernistic schools. The American dream is a theme that always occurs in the works, it is always to be the image of disillusionment and decline. The mutual fusion and conflict among the American society and individual, ideal and reality are causing by American dream, reflecting both the pragmatism and idealistic nature of American dream. At the same time, it is pointed that the imaginary of American dream and the emphasis on possession of material cannot meet the spiritual needs of people, so that resulting in the distortion and alienation of human nature. All these themes are the features of Modernism literature. There are different features and skills from Modernistic schools in the play---Expressionism and Symbolism. On writing technique this play is used of the writing characteristics of stream of consciousness. Through the technique such as the hero's memory, fantasy, and the effect of theatre stage, to make the play to be a picture of true and fusion, fantasy and reality, fully showing the tragedy life of hero and the profound theme.
