Abstract Along with fast development of computer network technology, new network product and the model of the network come forth constantly. The product and the network which supplier provided are various; the demand of information processing for origanizations also grows. Based on analyzing project background, related technology and application, the thesis analyzes several protocals of network management. With using the SNMP (Simple Network Management Protocal), the thesis proposes a configuration management system that fit for the EPOWER XP system. The thesis mainly introduces some related concepts of configuration management in network management. With analyzing the SNMP in depth and combining the application of EPOWER XP system management, the thesis presents a framework of system configuration management. The framework is flexible and easy to use. It’s also helpful to implement the configuration and management of the properties which belong to all kind of devices in EPOWER XP system. At the same time, the thesis discusses the principle of setting up configuration management application based on the framework and the way of configuration in practice. To help clarifying the configurationg request for the enterprise, and translate the request to configuration operation under the configuration framework, the thesis deeply researches the SNMP application in the process of device configuration. The theis sums up a whole design flow, improving the availability factor of devices in EPOWER XP system. The theis also sets up management program to the private MIB (Mangement Information Base) and implements Agent program of managed devices, finally analyzes the trouble alarm problem for the devices. The thesis also presents a design example. Based on researching the configuration management technology and SNMP, the thesis implements the configuration model.
