Abstract Next Generation Network (NGN) is the research focus of each country telecommunication department at present, and it will become the trend of network development in each country. The technology of soft-switch is the key implement of NGN system at home and abroad. SIP protocol is the most important of NGN protocol. The capability of soft-switch system is the assurance of next generation telecommunication. The structure of soft-switch system is complex, at the same time, and interface and relative protocols are much more. This increases the difficulty of the soft-switch system test, so the method of soft-switch test becomes very important. SIP signaling monitor system can monitor the call process through signaling analysis. System failures can be identified through the analysis of the source. This is an effective soft-switch testing methods. This paper is mainly about the SIP signaling monitor methods and the design of a soft-switch system of SIP signaling monitor tools. Firstly, briefly introduce the soft-switch system and its test method. At the same time, the SIP protocol is referenced. The SIP protocol’s function, component and SIP signal structure are analyzed. Secondly, focus on the Unified Modeling Language (UML) in the communication software design and implementation of UML-based object-oriented software testing methods. Put forward to a new UML-based SIP signaling monitor methods and use the SIP signaling UML Technology Monitor to design and model. Generate standard UML sequence diagram to display the communication process of soft-switch system, analyze the role of the sequence diagram in soft-switch system test. Then, using the UML technology, SIP signaling Monitor is designed and a framework for the system software is established. The dynamic behavior of SIP signaling and monitoring is described visually.
