中山大学博士学位论文 中山大学博士学位论文 华南大陆边缘新生代构造地貌形成演化机制研究 Mechanism for the Cenozoic Tecto—geomorphologic Evolution of the SE China Continental Margin Major： Tectonics and granite genesis Name： QIUYan Supervisor：Professor CHEN Guoneng Abstract The South China Sea，including the shelf and deep sea basins，is a part of the continental margin of western Pacific，attracting a great deal of attention of geoscientists since 1 970s for its special tectonic position and features．According to the data obtained by the geological and geophysical reconnaissance and drilling explore in the past several ten years，this paper summarizes the main geographical， geological and geophysical characteristics of the basin of the South China Sea as follows： 1． Negative topography：there is a great relief difference between the basin of South China Sea and the ground surface of its sumoundillg coastal Area．The shelf area is commonly from the depth of several ten to several hundred meters and that of the deep—sea basin is generally deeper than 4000m． 2． Continental crust configuration：in the South China Sea，all the area covered by geoph5‘sics reconnaissance and drilling exploring is found wim the configuration of continental crust．Though the central basin of South China Sea was presumed as oceanic crust，there is not any affirmatory datum to verify this idea． 3．Thin upper crust：in most area of the South China Sea,including the 中山大学博士学位论文 中山大学博士学位论文 华南大陆边缘新生代构造地貌形成演化机制研究 deep—sea basin，thickness ofthe lower crust is 10—20km，similar to that ofSE China continent．The upper crust，however，is commonly less than ten kilometers and the thinnest part only 2-3km，much thinner than that of the continental area of SE China where the average thickness of the upper crust is about 20km． 4．High gravity abnorrnity：the Bouguer abnormity ofthe continental area around the South China Sea is predominantly negative values．Contrast, Bouguer abnormity of the South China Sea，except that there are several small localities in the north
