T rad itio n ally, th e d esign of S ig m a-D elta m o d u lato r is o ften based o n sw itched -cap acitor (S C ) circu its, and because o f the settlin g tim e p rob lem , the sign al band w idth to b e p ro cessed by th is k in d of circu its is often lim ited in a few M H z .A lso , b ecause th e req u irem ent o f gain b an d w id th p ro d uct o f th e am p lifiers in S C circu its is o ften 7 to 8 tim es larg er th an th e sam p ling clo ck, it is n ot su itab le fo r low po w er d esign . W ith th e d ev elo p m ents o f th e com m un ication an d v id eo d eco der tech n o logy ,th e sign al ban d w idth to b e p ro cessed by th e co n v erter is exten d ed to a few d ozen M H z . A t the sam e tim e, w ith the v o ltag e scaling do w n , th e p ow er req u irem ent sho u ld also be low ered as w ell. A s a resu lt, the trad itio n al S ig m a-D elta m od u lato r can no t m eet o ur req u irem ent, th is m ak es the research ers to d ev elop n ew techn iq ues, and a lot of attentio n s are p ay ed to th e co ntin u o us tim e S igm a-D elta (C T S ig m a-D elta) m o d u lato r. T he co ntinu o us tim e S ig m a-D elta m od u lator is m ad e o f am p lifier, resistor an d cap acito r. T h ere is n o settlin g tim e prob lem in the con tin uo us tim e S igm a-D elta m o d u lato r, so th e sign al b and w idth to be pro cessed can be exten ded to a d ozen M H z, an d th e gain b an d w id th p rod uct o f am p lifiers is lim ited to tw o o r th ree tim es larger th an th e sam p ling clo ck .
