The electric scooters, which weigh between 30 and 40 pounds, reach speeds of about 15 mph. In September 2017，Santa Monica, California, became the first U.S. city tohave an electric scooter-share service. Since its September 2017 beginning, Bird’s system has served more than 50,000 riders who have taken 250,000 trips — more than half of which have been in the last month.
