AbstractLu Abstract Lu Xun is a notable theorist and practitioner in the history of Chinese translation.The studies of Lu Xun’S translation have important significance for translation studies. Children’S literature translations occupy a considerable proportion in Lu Xun’S translation.Lu Xun has far-reaching motivations on children’S literature translation.First,he worries about the future of China and the Chinese people,and places high hope on children’S education.Therefore, he wishes to bring some enlightened and creative literature works for children.Second,due to the shortage of children’S literature in china,Lu Xun wants to translate some foreign children’S literature works to encourage Chinese young writers to create more works that are suitable for children.As for the selection of the source text,Lu Xun doesn’t follow the mainstream in children’S literature translation--choosing original text from famous writers in powerful countries.Contrarily,he prefers to choose works from weak nations,especially those nations that used to be powerful and later degenerated.By doing this,Lu Xun intends to encourage Chinese people to grow stronger by relying on their own efforts.Owing to Lu Xun’s strong purposes in children’S literature translation,later generations take his translation as“adult’S fairy tale.’’ About About the translation strategies,Lu Xun embraces free translation rather than literal translation.Though Lu Xun consistently adheres to literal translation,sometimes the reality puts him in an awkward position. Through the comparative study,the author finds that Lu Xun combines literal translation and free translation together,and intends to make children fully understood.In language,the application of vernacular became a trend at that time.Lu Xun also execs great efforts to promote it. However,we still see many classical Chinese in his translation.Despite the historical limitations,Lu Xun had exerted a far-reaching influence on children’S literature transla
