The customer can be an outside customer, another Delphi plant or another department within the plant. Typically we look at a value stream within a plant. Here you can specify the value stream that will be covered with this training. * 5 Lay in the process steps from left to right along the lower half of the page. * 6 As you map the material flow, look for places where the flow stops. These will be inventory points. Typically you will look at only the key suppliers. It may not be necessary to get into detail on every part used (ie: nuts, bolts, screws). * Simply - how do these areas know what to do? Who tells them and using what method. * 7 Finally - calculate the lead time. Just place the TIME VALUE that the inventory represents in terms of the customer demand.
