PAGE PAGE IV Abstract Abstract With XML data more and more widely used, people put higher and higher emphasis on XML data requirements. Earlier researches are primarily focused on XPath query processing. Although XPath is relatively simple, it has limited capacity of expression, for instance it can not express connecting operation. As recommendation standard of W3C, XQuery has more abilities than XPath in expression, meanwhile XQuery is more complex than XPath. XQuery has both structured query language and process query language features. On one hand, the FLWR clause in XQuery, to certain extent,is similar to the SQL select-from-where clause, it is the most important expression on XQuery; On the other hand, XQuery supporting nested in expression, such as in conditional expression ( IF-THEN-ELSE ), loop expression ( FOR ), and in return expression etc, also supports utility domain question in variables and predications. These are all important features of programming language. So it is a hotspot on how to effectively carry out XQuery queries. However , although XQuery has powerful functions in processing traditional XML data, it does not fully consider the issue of data flow, that is , the data being processed are continuously arrive at XQuery processor. These data may come from a data acquisition device or a computing simulation that has been running for a long time. The length of these XML data flows far exceeds current computer storage capacity. So it is impossible to store these data, and to facilitate a more easier way to handle these data. However ,in certain circumstances, it requires some methods, after a single pass on data flow or calculation,to get the right answers. In this paper, Firstly it introduce concepts、 contents、 features and roles of XML, explicate the XML-Releated technologies, analyze the XQuery technology and a detail description of the advantages and disadvantages of XQuery technology.
