It is popular adopted for its compact size and high loading capacity. The vertical link is key item for compact chain. It is a forged one because to form and weld it on the chain forming machine is not possible for its flat profile. The paper work focuses on forging process of the compact vertical link, based on the research of its structural process, establishes the forging process layout and designs forging mould and complex mould for both internal material punching off and chip removal, and also makes numerical simulation for hot forging process of the forged vertical link. The new forging process was proved with computer simulation. The forged link resulted meets the requirements of the armored face conveyor. The root reason of vertical link failure is analyzed based on the analysis of its loading and failure details, requirement on materials, dimension and structure of forged link is raised, forging method is finalized and influence on forging method resulted from vertical link structure is analyzed. According to the structure technology about the compact chain vertical ring, drew up the vertical ring forging process, the program is divided into three stages：the preparation before forging, vertical ring forging and after vertical ring forging. Determining the three stages in the vertical ring forging process, and selection of related equipment and process parameters. The paper work studies the key technology of forging process including forging mould design and complex mould design.
