03 “这是我写给世界的信” ——解读爱米丽?狄金森 导入: 狄金森(1830-1886),20岁开始写诗,早期的诗大都已散失。1858年后闭门不出,70年代后几乎不出房门,文学史上称她为“阿默斯特的女尼”。留下诗稿 1,775首,她生前只有7首诗发表。逝世后,她的亲友将她的遗诗发表。直到美国现代诗兴起,她才作为现代诗的先驱者得到热烈欢迎。 This is my letter to the world This is my letter to the world, That never wrote to me,-- The simple news that Nature told, With tender majesty. Death comes calling in a carriage in which Immortality is also a passenger. Archibald MacLeish has attended to Dickinson’s drained images most ably of all her readers. Some of the images, he writes, are “so strangely abstracted as to be almost transparent.” Of the illogical coupling of her images “either in metaphor or out of it,” he says, “it takes more than a second reading or even a third to demonstrate that there are images at work at all.”[](26) David Porter. Dickinson ---the Modern Idiom ,Harvard Stanza 2 We slowly drove, he knew no haste, And I had put away My labor, and my leisure too, For his civility. 提示性分析 As the trip continues in Stanza 2, the carriage trundles along at an easy, unhurried pace, perhaps suggesting that death has arrived in the form of a disease or debility that takes its time to kill.
