Liu It has been a great concern for the residents if a mine effluent would pollute the river downstream . According to the experience of mine development, there was little water in detention and deposit ponds during non-rainy days. During rainy days, if the detention and deposit pond water did not overflow then mine water should not be the source of water pollution. We conducted a case study using Basins/HSPF of the (SS) Technical Guideline of Water Quality Assessment Model for mine water pollution simulation. The results of Basins/HSPF Water Quality Assessment Model showed that (1) the average Basins/HSPF annual suspended-sediment concentration in receiving water is Basins/HSPF 24.2 mg/L after mine development; (2) the average suspended- sediment concentration during high-flow period is 24.3 mg/ (SS) L, and (3) the average su spended-sediment concentration 24.2mg/L during low-flow period is 24.4 mg/L.
