Research Research on Soft Ground Settlement base on I!讧icrostructure Major：Geotechnical engineering Student：Chunxiu Lin Supervisor：Cuiying Zhou Abstract Settlement calculation is one of the most important problems in geotechnical engineering fields，at the same time，it is one of the key practical problems in the construction of coastal area in which soft clay widely distributed．At present，those settlement calculation models about soil Bre established on classical mechanical method of ideal elastic·plastic body or nonlinear elastic—plastic body．However the complexity features such as discontinuity，heterogeneity, anisotropy and uncertainty of the engineering soils on a macroscopic scale strongly depend On the discontinuity and uncertainty of the soil microstructure．The purpose of ground improving is tO make the ground becoming more and more solid．Actually,in the processing of improvement,the soil microstructure is becoming better and better．So，research on the microstructure of soft clay is one ofthe frontier problems in soil mechanical fields．The study ofthis paper mainly includes five parts：(I)research on the characters ofmacro—deformation and microstructure of soft clay ground on consolidation test and consolidated triaxial test；(2)adopting image-processing technique to extract parameters of soil microstructure；(3)analyzing the relationship between microstructure parameters and loading，deformation as well as strength；(4)using numerical analysis method to construct calculation model of settlement in soft clay strata ground on microstructure；(5)applying that new model which we build in the paper base on the microstructure parameters to practical engineering，and the results show that the calculated data are very close to the monitored ones． Meanwhile，the results show that the varying regularities of microstructure of soR clay is well coincided with the regularities of deformation and strength in the experimental study．Meaning that the model is significantly innovative．
