Institute ofGeographic Sciences andN aturalResourcesResearch, ChineseA cademy of Sciences, Beijing 100101, China) Abstract: In order to research on the current status ofheavy metalpollution of fishes in SonghuaR iver, concentrations of Cu, Zn, Pb and Cd in fishes from this riverwere determ inedw ith an atom ic absorption spectrometer and concentration of Hg w ith an F732V mercury analyzer, and the heavymetalpollution assessedwith themeanbased comprehensive pollution index method. Results show that the contents ofheavymetals in fisheswere found in the order ofZn Pb Cu Hg Cd. L ittle differencewas observed bewt een fishes from the Second Songhua R iver and themain stream of Songhua R iver in Cu and Zn concentrations, and the Pb andHg concentrations found in the Second Songhua R iver were higher than that in the main stream ofSonghua River, however, higher concentrations ofCdwere found in themain stream ofSonghuaR iver.
