In the following slights I would like to show some possibilities * When looking at the temperature evolution inside a catalyst bed a non linear raise is observed. The graph is basically in the shape of an Arrhenius plot. The temperature curve corresponds of course with the conversion. The title of the x-axis could be retention time or even catalyst volume as well. The slope of the temperature raise depends on a number of factors, like space velocity, void fraction, catalyst activity and some others as well. In reality the conversion is limited because of insufficient catalyst volume. The restricted catalyst volume has economically driven reasons. The volume is either caused by the original design parameters or later on after revamping the unit. As long as the equilibrium conversion is not reached increased catalyst volume will result in higher conversion. * Looking now on different catalyst types the slope of the temperature/conversion raise inside a catalyst pass becomes different. Generally the catalyst activitiy of the commercially available types show increased activity with increasing temperature. Depending on the catalyst activity management higher conversion rates with the same catalyst amount are possible. This effect is observed clearly when looking to the history of Cs-doped catalysts.
