　 ·74 · 　Chinese Bulletin of Entomology 2007 44(1) ＊ ＊＊ 赵亚娥 　郭　娜 ( 　 　710061) ＊＊ The pesticidal effect and mechanism of peppermint oil in vitro against Demodex .ZHAO Ya-E , GUO Na (School of Medicine, Xi an Jiao Tong University, Xi an　710061, China) Abstract　The mites were collected with adhesive cello hane ta e and then randomly divided into grou s.The esticidal effect of e ermint oil at different concentrations against Demodex was investigated.The mor hologic change and activity of mites were ictured using Motic Images software.The results showed that e ermint oil had owerful killing effect for D.f olliculorum and D.brevis in vitro, es ecially for D.brevis.The mortality increased with the drug concentration elevated and time rolonged.The most suitable and effective concentration against D. folliculorum in vitro was 12.5%,while the concentration for D.brevis was 3.125%.When the drug was given, the mites contracted and twisted with accelerated activity, both D.folliculorum and D.brevis had extravasated out from the body wall.The ty ical rocess for the mite toxicity was excite-s asm-dehydration-chalasia-die.The main action of e ermint oil is neurotoxicity and contact toxicity:it can result in the mite s dehydration and die. Pe ermint oil is a natural and highly effective drug against human Demodex.
