Abstract: The industrial magnesia and vitriol are used to produce magnesium sulfate in this
pape,r and the smi u lated w astew ater is prepared using magnesium sulfate and kaolin. The
flocculating effect of polyacrylam ide, cationic polyacrylam ide and an ionic polyacrylam ide is studied
and compared through measurement of absorbency by spectrophotometer. The resu lts show that the
cationic polyacrylam ide has the best floccu lating effect among these three floccu lants, and can be
used at low concentration. The temperature and pH of the w astew ater cou ld change the flocculating
effect of the floccu lant evidently.
