In this paper, the status and sources of heavy metals pollution in farmland soils were investigated followed with the analysis of present policies to protect soils in China. Likewise, the policies of soil protection in other countries were also summarized. Finally, the prevention strategy of farmland soils from pollution was proposed, including regulations establish－ ment of the prevention of farmland soil from pollution as well as treatment and management of polluted farmland soils.
