Institute of oil and Water Conserv ation, Chinese A cademy of ciences and M inistry of Water Resources, Yangling, haanx i 712100, China) Abstract: T he effect of initial w ater content on saturated hydraulic conductivity( KS10) and salt leaching of alkaline soil w as researched using column leaching experiments in laboratory. Saturated hydraulic conductivi- ty w as measured at six different initial w ater contents. The results indicated that saturated hydraulic conduc- tivity decreased w ith an increase in initial w ater content, show ing a significant negative linear correlation. With an increase in initial w ater contents, the pH value decreased w hile electrical conductivity ( EC) in- creased. The pH value in leachate increased but the EC decreased as the KS10 increased, both f
