A client connecting to a service hosted behind a BIG-IP controller will use DNS to determine the IP address to connect to. To connect to the service, the client needs to connect to a specific port on that IP address. Prior Intelligent Traffic Control, BIG-IP would manage network traffic solely on these two parameters. Intelligent Traffic Control allow BIG-IP to use additional information to determine which node is the most appropriate to handle an incoming request.
