Thoreau was very strong in his believing that we should live for ourselves. He believes that we should do things our way rather than copy our parents or anyone else. 2. Living by himself in the woods was more real, having to do with the real needs of life--food, shelter, clothing, etc. he wanted to so fully understand what life was about, that he wanted to live it deeply. he wanted to actually live how life was meant to be lived. He wanted to live life to the fullest. 4. Thoreau influences the reader to choose his or her own personal desires rather than those imposed on us by society. He believes that we should worry more about doing what is right for ourselves, so that we can live for ourselves.
